World Beat

Do you know what is happening out there
Beyond the beautiful ocean of the white sheets
Beyond the warm tempests of our hands
Do you know what the word is like?

Out there people see misery in the eye
Out there the past does not flow
Life does not rain on everyone
In any tense, only in a poor subjunctive
Poor subservients, sub missive
People who have only one birth and one ending
A total of two smiles overall, if they are lucky to ever break them.

Do you know what is happening out there
There where your breath doesn’t reach warm
Beyond the stream of your blinks
Do you know what is happening?

Out there people don’t live like we do
Out there pillows are wrinkle-free
And the glasses are always washed
No plural, no deep singular
Only a couple of nouns, adjectives, adverbs
The jugular veins die on the wicker
And the empty palms on the lower lining

Do you know what is happening out there
There where we are the strange ones?
Outside of all those times in which you love me
Do you know what the world is like?

P.S. For that promise of Paris and Berlin in the springtime.
